Forsan ISD Students Disciplined After Posting Inflammatory Pictures

FORSAN, TX –– Forsan ISD continues to deal with the fallout of two pictures featuring students sharing racial slurs that went viral on social media.

Several days ago, the first picture –– depicting an African American student inside a chicken coop cage, with the caption "starting the bidding at $2,000," was widely shared. The picture was taken sometime last year and posted on Snapchat.

The second picture was more recent and depicts three girls holding up phones spelling out a racial slur. The picture was allegedly taken last Thursday.

According to Forsan ISD Superintendent Randy Johnson, the students have been disciplined for creating and posting the picture.

“It came to our attention from the girls themselves who came and realized that they needed to let us know what had happened, realizing it was inappropriate," said Johnson. "They had also gone and made apologies, I believe even prior to that, with specific students they felt it would be offensive to."

According to Johnson, the district can not legally discuss the disciplinary action taken but hopes students, faculty, and administrators will learn from the incident.

“We’re all about learning, teaching, and learning and we’ve gone through the process of investigating and doling out the discipline and so we’re hoping that through that there is learning that takes place about what is appropriate and what is not appropriate”, said Johnson. “We’ve done the discipline, we’ve worked our way through that and we now need those students and other students to be able to heal and allow that learning to take a foothold in their lives."
