BIG SPRING, TX — September 30 marks the 75th anniversary of the first day of classes held at Howard College and the college is hosting celebrations at all four campuses throughout the day in honor of the historic occasion. The news below comes via press release.
“This day is a key part of our history and we felt like we needed to recognize it at each one of our campuses in honor of the support we have received from our communities over the last 75 years,” said Dr. Cheryl T. Sparks, President. “Even though we have had to alter our plans for celebration due to the pandemic, we still wanted to recognize the importance of this day for our college and our students.”
Events will be held in person at each campus but will also be shared via Facebook Live on each campus Facebook page so that anyone can participate virtually.
The day will begin in San Angelo at 10 a.m. with a “Builders of San Angelo Workshop” dedication and recognition of the Nelson Davis “Building Futures” Scholarship.
Up next will be the Lamesa campus event recognizing the Dr. Wayne Smith Memorial Scholarship at 1:30 p.m. To round out the day, at 3:30 p.m. the college will unveil new signage at the SouthWest College for the Deaf (SWCD) campus and also recognize both the McGary Regan Foundation and the Dom Bonura Memorial Scholarship.
The Big Spring campus will be the last stop for the day and at 4:30 p.m. the college will gather at the Old Main Building and recognize the Big Spring Area Community Foundation and the Greg Henry New Horizons Scholarship.
“Our communities have supported us from the beginning, and we would not be where we are today without their ongoing generosity and support,” said Sparks. “We always want to celebrate our successes, but we cannot do that without celebrating those who are a big part of our strong foundation.”
The college will be having an invitation only 75th Anniversary Gala later in the evening that will also be available via livestream for everyone to watch. Events on September 30th are provided by the generosity of Delek US Holdings, Inc., Delek Fund for Hope of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
