SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Independent School District is committed to keep masks optional in their schools.
As a number of schools across Texas are defying Gov. Greg Abbott's order regarding mask mandates San Angelo ISD confirmed that they will continue to only encourage students to wear a mask.
"We continue to monitor our local COVID-19 metrics in San Angelo to inform our decisions regarding the health and safety of students and staff," stated Molly Johnson, Director of Community Relations. "At this time, our “2021-2022 Back to School COVID-19” protocols remain in effect"
The "Back to School COVID-19" protocols include non-mandate of masks, improved hygiene stations, visitor restrictions, and no virtual learning.
The only staff on campus that is required to wear masks are the food service workers.
"Our Child Nutrition staff is implementing additional safety measures while handling and preparing meals by wearing face coverings and gloves," continued Johnson.
Attorney General Ken Paxton and Gov. Abbott says they are committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of all Texans. Executive Order GA-38 prohibits governmental entities and officials from mandating face coverings or vaccines. This order has the force and effect of state law and supersedes local rules and regulations.
There are currently over 80 schools and school districts that are not complying with GA-38 account to Kex Paxton.
