Abilene ISD Votes Against Mask Mandate

ABILENE, TX –– Even after the Texas Supreme Court ruled in favor of Governor Abbott regarding who has the authority to mandate masks, the issue continues to be prevalent in schools across Texas.

During a board meeting on Monday night, Abilene ISD voted against a mandate in the district's facilities.

Superintendent Dr. David Young reminded parents of the district's health and safety protocols that are available on the district's website.

Part of the protocols includes hand sanitization stations throughout the campuses, promoting social distancing inside , and upgrading air filters.

One of the parents who attended the meeting shared the following comment.

"Even if you think that masks are harmful or if you think that vaccinations are the best it doesn’t really matter really along this front," said Cheryl Sawyer. "If you catch covid you are out of school.”
