SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo ISD is gearing up for the 2021-2022 school year that will kick off Wednesday, August 18th.
"We are excited to welcome our students back into our halls for the 2021-2022 school year on Wednesday, August 18th," said SAISD in a statement. "Our staff members have been working diligently this summer to prepare for our students, and we have some updates regarding our COVID-19 safety protocols for students."
With the first day of school only a couple of days away, SAISD has released a few back-to-school basics.
Following Governor Abbott's executive order, the school district will not require masks –– but they are appreciated.
The district will continue to implement heightened and periodic cleaning protocols in all classrooms. Students and staff will continue to have access to hand sanitizer.
During the first nine weeks of school, parents and guardians may enter schools to attend scheduled meetings concerning the educational needs of their children. Parents and guardians will not be allowed on campus for lunches for the first nine weeks of school –– SAISD will reassess the policy after that time.
The 2021-2022 school year will not provide San Angelo families with the option of virtual instruction. This is a result of the Texas Education Agency not approving virtual classes as a replacement for in-person attendance.
If a student tests positive for COVID-19, they will have to wait 10 days after the first symptoms appeared or 10 days after the positive test if no symptoms occur.
In the event, a student or staff member has direct contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case, they will have two options.
If the student or staff member is fully vaccinated, then quarantine will not be required unless symptoms develop. School officials recommend those individuals self-monitor their symptoms and wear a mask for 14 days.
In the event, they are not vaccinated and close contact occurs, students and staff will be required to stay at home until they are cleared to return to campus.
