Clyde CISD Makes Student Dress Code Gender Neutral

CLYDE, TX -- After facing backlash over its dress code policy that prohibited male students from wearing nail polish, the Clyde CISD school board voted to change the wording in the current handbook.

The approved changes no longer separate males and females from specific dress code policies. From now on all students will follow the same policies.

The controversy began after senior Trevor Wilkinson went viral after he was suspended for wearing nail polish. Wilkinson refused to remove the polish and the school sent him to in-school suspension until he complied with school policy.

At the time Clyde CISD announced it had no plans to make changes to the handbook, but the school board seemed to have changed its mind.

"It is with great honor that I am pleased to announce that Clyde High School’s dress code is officially gender-neutral forever," said Wilkinson. "I’m at a loss of words for the joy I am feeling on this special day. I am so blessed by the support, love, and help I have received through this experience."
