Stephens Chapel Opens at Angelo State University

SAN ANGELO, TX — A ceremony attended by a number of important San Angeoans was held on the Angelo State University Campus on Oct. 29 to celebrate the opening of the Stephens Chapel.

The Stephens Chapel was the idea of former President of ASU Brian May, said Steve Stephens during his speech on the new building.

He explained that May brought the idea to him and his wife Polyanna and the two loved it.

Steve hopes that this Chapel will bring spirituality into the lives of not only Angelo State students and faculty but to the entire San Angelo community.

To finish the speech, Stephens compared a university to a 3 legged stool. The first leg was education, the main reason for the college at all.

The second leg was athletics. He believes it is a window to your university to encourage outsiders to come to you campus. Stephens has made a number of contributions to Angelo State athletics. The Angelo State baseball field is named after his family.

“The final leg on the stool is spirituality,” said Stephens. “Without the third leg the bar stool will teeter at best.”

The Stephens Chapel is located in front of the library at ASU.
