Got a Better Name for Robert E. Lee Middle School?

SAN ANGELO, TX – In the wake of the removal of the name "Robert E. Lee" from the San Angelo ISD middle school on Sherwood Way, the district is asking for the public's help in renaming it.

As previously reported, on Monday, October 19, San Angelo ISD school board trustees voted 6-1 to retire the name of Lee Middle School. San Angelo ISD will now follow school board policy called "CW local" to rename the school.

Previously a list of 40 names were suggested to the board. Those names included Sheep Middle School, San Angelo Junior Technical Academy, Obama Middle School and many more. This list was compiled by a committee that reports to the superintendent.

During Monday's board meeting, trustee Max Parker suggested that the new name for Lee Middle School not be made after a person, "or we may end back up here again, renaming the school." Parker suggested Concho Valley Middle School.

If you think you have a great name recommendation then submit it to the communications department at SAISD.

Proposed names should be submitted in writing to [email protected] prior to the November Pre-Agenda Workshop Meeting on Monday, November 9.
