Texas Tech Chancellor Tests Positive for COVID-19

LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech University announced Wednesday that Chancellor Dr. Tedd Mitchell has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the university, Dr. Mitchell was made aware of his positive test result sometime Wednesday afternoon, just a few hours after taking a test administered by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center personnel earlier that day.

On Thursday the university gave an update stating Dr. Mitchell is currently experiencing mild symptoms and is currently working from home in isolation.

"As a physician and advocate of public health, I cannot stress how important it is that we take this virus seriously,” said Chancellor Mitchell.

“Please remember to wear a face covering, remain socially distant and stay diligent with your hand hygiene. I will keep you updated throughout this period, and I thank everyone for their well wishes.”

The TTU System Administration and Chancellor Mitchell are currently following the CDC guidelines, as well as taking health and safety precautionary measures as they work along with city health officials on contact tracing protocols moving forward.
