SAN ANGELO, TX -- (Press Release) At San Angelo ISD, the safety of students, staff and visitors is one of our top goals and we take this responsibility very seriously.
Our safety and security programs address prevention, intervention, student assistance, preparedness, emergency response and building security. We rely on the support of our students, parents and the community to keep our schools safe and we work closely with our local police and fire departments to coordinate prevention and response activities, perform security audits and provide training to all employees on security issues.
In our ongoing efforts to address safety and security concerns across the district, San Angelo ISD has implemented the following safety initiatives.
URASE Training
All SAISD Employees, Substitutes, and Student Teachers received the Unified Response to Active Shooter Events (URASE) training.
Lockdown Buttons
Automatic lockdown buttons have been installed in all elementary schools.
Active Shooter Training
SAISD partnered with the Angelo State University Police Department, the San Angelo Police Department, and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department to conduct an active shooter training exercise at an SAISD facility.
Enhanced Communication
SAISD is enhancing proactive communication with the StayALERT and Nixle systems to allow reporting of concerns and campus-specific alerts.
Improved Access Security
Access security has been improved at multiple locations with the addition of fencing and secure entry vestibules.
Security Systems
SAISD has upgraded and added over 1,000 high-definition cameras and increased district-wide radio communication.
Mental Health
SAISD has established community partnerships to support students and families with mental health needs. Campus personnel is receiving ongoing training in identification and support for students struggling with emotional problems.
Campus Safety Procedures
Security consultants utilized current emergency response research to customize safety and emergency procedures for each campus.
