Angelo State Names New Director of Porter Henderson Library

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Chris Matz, formerly the associate dean for public services at the University of North Texas, has been hired as the new executive director of Angelo State University’s Porter Henderson Library.

An Oregon native, Matz has 20 years of library experience at the college level. In addition to his post at the University of North Texas, he has also served as:

  • Library director, Shoreline Community College, Washington
  • Head librarian, Leeward Community College, Hawaii
  • Head librarian, Savannah College of Art & Design, Georgia
  • Library director, Christian Brothers University, Tennessee
  • Collection development librarian, University of Memphis, Tennessee
  • Library director, Livingstone College, North Carolina

Outside of his library duties, Matz has published nearly a dozen research articles and monograph chapters in library industry publications, including the Journal of Library Administration and College & Research Libraries News. He has also made numerous presentations at various state professional conferences.

A member of the Texas Library Association, Matz previously served as president of the Hawaii Library Consortium and Memphis Area Library Council, and as vice chair of the College & University Libraries Section of the Tennessee Library Association (TLA). He also won the 2007 Freedom of Information Award from TLA.

Matz holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Oregon, a Master of Library Science from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a Master of Arts in English/professional writing from the University of Memphis.

Matz replaces Dr. Maurice Fortin, who retired at the end of the 2018 spring semester after serving as executive director of the Porter Henderson Library since 1996.
