It's Engineers' Week at Angelo State University

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — In recognition of the annual National Engineers Week, Angelo State University’s David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering will host its inaugural Engineers Week activities Feb. 20-22 at several locations on the ASU campus and at the Stephens Central Library in downtown San Angelo.

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, the Hirschfeld Department of Engineering will host the Discovery Night at STEAM Central from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Stephens Central Library, 33 W. Beauregard Ave. Activities will include a youth and family team engineering design challenge, plus new “makerspace” stations provided by ASU engineering students. The event is open free to the public.

Then on Thursday, Feb. 22, ASU will host “Lab Night at Hunter Strain” in the ASU Planetarium and Hunter Strain Engineering Labs. Activities will include a viewing of the movie “Dream Big: Engineering Our World” at 5 p.m. in the Planetarium, which is located in the Vincent Building, 2333 Vanderventer St. From 6-7 p.m., ASU engineering students and faculty will lead hands-on activities for K-12 students next door in the Hunter Strain Engineering Labs. All activities are open free to the public.

National Engineers Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers and takes place annually during the week of President George Washington’s Birthday, Feb. 22, in honor of his contributions as the nation’s first engineer. Events and activities during the week are dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of, and interest in, engineering and technology careers.
