Governor Abbott Proclaims Jan. 21-27 “Texas School Choice Week”

AUSTIN, TX – (Press Release) Gov. Greg Abbott has officially proclaimed Jan. 21-27 as School Choice Week in Texas, joining dozens of governors and hundreds of city and county leaders nationwide in issuing similar proclamations.

Texans have planed 3,957 School Choice Week events and activities across the state, aiming to raise awareness about the educational opportunities parents have, or want to have, for their kids. Events include rallies, roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, school fairs, and more.

More than 32,000 events and activities have been planned nationwide.

“A quality education can make all the difference in a child’s life. Today’s students are the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators,” said Gov. Abbott. “As so many parents know, one size simply doesn’t fit all when it comes to education. Many students are in schools that simply don’t fit their needs, and parents often find themselves powerless to do anything about it. Well, as governor, I am committed to improving our education system and ensuring that no child is stuck in a failing school. That includes expanding education options and empowering parents to choose the school that is best for their child.”

“We are grateful to Gov. Abbott for bringing attention to the importance of quality education, and of opportunity in education,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “We’re excited to celebrate School Choice Week in Texas, and we hope Texas parents, and parents everywhere, will find a school that best fits their kids’ needs.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent, nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
