SAN ANGELO, TX -- The Director of Communications for San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD), Jamie Highsmith, is retiring after 35 years in public education.
Mr. Derrick Jackson, communications specialist for Frisco ISD, will replace Highsmith in July, according to a SAISD press release. Additionally, Jackson’s expertise in high stakes public relations will fit the role of marketing and keeping SAISD’s partnership with local media strong.
Jackson assisted in successfully completing a $775 million bond campaign for Frisco ISD in 2014. He was also responsible for mass communication in the Frisco district and in charge of all video production.
Jackson has helped produce and edit multiple television shows including Sports Stars of Tomorrow, by Pat Summerall, Chevrolet’s Raceweek, hosted by Scott Murray, and Taste of the Southwest by Wolfgang Puck.
SAISD also announced the following changes in their administration:
Assistant Superintendent Shelly Hullihen will be promoted to the role of Deputy Superintendent of Administrative Services. In this role, Ms. Hullihen will assist Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff with the daily operations of the district. With 10 years of experience in the SAISD, Ms. Hullihen’s knowledge and expertise will be an asset in leading a district with 15,000 students.
Dr. Jana Rueter, currently the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will transition to the role of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Rueter will also continue to oversee the district’s Teaching for Learning plan and implementation.
