Angelo State University’s Wool Judging Team was named Reserve Grand Champion, said a press release Tuesday. Also, three individuals placed in the top 10 at the 2016 National Western Stock Show Intercollegiate Wool Judging Contest on January 14 in Denver, Colorado.
The ASU team scored 2,032 points to finish second overall behind a team from Texas Tech University (2,043 points) and claim the title of Reserve Grand Champion. Team members are Kyrsten Gibson of Hondo, Tyler Davidson of Mertzon, Emily Dyes of Holiday, Dalton Buchholz of Eldorado, Macye Boyd of Meadow, Ashleigh James of Lubbock, and Sterling Goolsby of Clifton.
According to the press release, Gibson placed first overall and also took first place in the Total Grading category and second place in Total Placings. Davidson placed ninth overall and took fourth in Total Placings and seventh in Total Reasons. Boyd placed 10th overall and took first place in Total Placings. Dyes placed sixth in Total Reasons, and James finished ninth in Total Grading.
All the other teams at the contest represented Division I schools, including Texas Tech, Texas A&M University, New Mexico State University, Colorado State University, and South Dakota State University.
Next up for the ASU Wool Judging Teams is the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Intercollegiate Wool Judging Contest on February 13.
