Angelo State University will continue its traditional Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1, said a press release Wednesday.
The ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Memorial Oak Grove at 2601 West Avenue N. There will be many activities, in addition to the tree lighting ceremony, beginning at 5 p.m. A special Holiday Pops performance by the ASU Symphony Orchestra, led by Dr. Maurice Kelley, will be the highlight of the events.
Additionally, ice skating on a synthetic rink and photo opportunities in an inflatable snow globe provided by the University Center Program Council will be included in the evening's activities. An ornament table sponsored by ASU Greek Life will be present, and ASU's registered student organization members will continue their tradition of making ornaments for the ASU tree.
A cookie decoration event will be hosted by the Baptist Student Ministry, and members of the Society of Physics Students will create nitrogen-infused ice cream for the participants. ASU's mascot, Rambouillet Ram, will be brought in by Block and Bridle, the agriculture student group. Members of ASU's Air Force Detachment 847 wil provide information about the history of the Memorial Oak Grove with photographs of the fallen soldiers the trees represent. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be provided.
ASU's 15-foot Christmas tree will remain on display throughout the holiday season.
