Angelo State University’s chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has been named a 2014-15 Outstanding Student Chapter for providing exceptional growth and development opportunities to its student members.
Established at ASU in 2013, the SHRM chapter is open to students in any HR-related degree program and includes graduate and undergraduate students majoring in business, psychology and communication. The faculty advisor is Dr. Kenneth Sweet of the Department of Management and Marketing.
The recognition is SHRM’s highest chapter award. In addition to receiving a plaque for display, the ASU chapter will be honored at the SHRM Annual Conference and Exposition June 28-July 1 in Las Vegas.
“This award is the result of outstanding student engagement and professional development over the course of the 2014-15 academic year,” Sweet said. “Angelo State SHRM students were recognized for building a high-quality professional development program, interacting with HR professionals through Concho Valley SHRM and internships, and volunteering service to Angelo State and the surrounding community.”
Established in 1948, the Society for Human Resource Management is the leading provider of resources to serve the needs of HR professionals and advance the professional practice of human resource management. SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters in the U.S. and represents more than 275,000 members in over 160 countries. More information is available online at www.shrm.org.
“SHRM is pleased to announce our 2014-2015 Student Chapter Merit Award winners. These chapters, led by an inspiring and dedicated group of student volunteers and chapter advisors, truly represent the future of the HR profession,” said Susan Post, a divisional director and the lead for SHRM’s Student Programs.
