Fort Concho to Commemorate Armed Forces Day May 16

 

Fort Concho will mark Armed Forces Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, with hourly salutes by the fort’s artillery unit.

The gun will be placed on the Parade Ground near the fort’s Barracks 1 Visitor Center at 630 S. Oakes St. Also, the fort’s army ambulance will be offering rides around the Parade Ground, pulled by the mule team of Mac and Tom. The rides will start near the Visitor Center.

There will be no charge for the rides or the artillery demonstrations. Regular admission will apply for all guests wishing to see the entire site. Current members of the armed forces, veterans and their families will enjoy free admission all day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Armed Forces Day celebrates the contributions made by all of the nation’s armed services. It has been marked at Fort Concho for the past 20 years.
