The Christoval High School One Act Play is headed to the UIL State contest with their production of August: Osage County by Tracy Letts. The UIL State Meet will be held in Austin for the second consecutive year.
Under the direction of Travis Morganstean, the cast and crew have won five rounds of competition to earn the opportunity to compete. The meet is May 27 at the McCullough Theatre on the University of Texas campus.
There were 187 schools that competed from the beginning in the class 2A One Act Play contest, and there are now eight schools remaining in contention for the state championship. Another One Act Play team from Miles High School is also headed for state this year.
The UIL One Act Play Contest, founded in 1927, is the largest high school play production contest or play festival in the world. In the UIL contest, similarly-sized Texas schools present an 18-40 minute play and are judged by either a panel of three judges or a single judge. More than 14,000 Texas high school students in more than 1,000 plays participate in 300 plus contests that begin in the beginning of March and culminate during the three-day, 40-production State Meet One-Act Play Contest May 27.
