ASU to Host Department of State Diplomat

 

Angelo State University’s Career Development Office will host veteran diplomat Floyd S. Cable for an information session on career opportunities and internships with the U.S. Department of State on Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

The free presentation will run from 1-3 p.m. in Rooms 203/204 of the University Center and is open to the public. Cable, diplomat in residence for Central Texas, will focus on State Department career avenues for adults, as well as the internship program and Pathways Programs for ASU students. The State Department offers a variety of international and domestic career opportunities, including careers in the Foreign Service and the Civil Service. The State Department also offers a number of fellowships and internships that span the globe.

As a diplomat in residence, Cable is responsible for providing guidance and advice to students, professionals and the community about State Department careers. He previously served in nine different overseas posts, including at the U.S. Embassies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Abuja, Nigeria; Islamabad, Pakistan; Santiago, Chile; La Paz, Bolivia; Rome, Italy, and Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. In Washington, D.C., he served as post management officer with the Bureau of East Asian & Pacific Affairs and attended the National War College-National Defense University. Cable holds graduate degrees in teaching English to non-English speakers and in counseling psychology and student development. He was teaching English in Seoul, South Korea, when he joined the Foreign Service in 1987.
