ASU Ranked 19th Nationally for Security Studies Program

Angelo State University’s Master of Science degree in homeland security has been ranked one of the “25 Best Online Master’s in Homeland Security Degree Programs” in the U.S. by TheBestSchools.org, an educational resource website that ranks degree programs in all disciplines.

The only program at a Texas school to make the list, ASU’s program ranked 19th overall. According to TheBestSchools.org, programs were ranked based on several weighted factors, including academic excellence, range of available classes, faculty strengths, rankings and reputation, including reputation for online degree programs.

Dr. Casey Jones, chair of ASU’s Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice, said, “This recognition is a tribute to the border and homeland security faculty, who developed a curriculum that blends practices from various disciplines to promote research on problems such as terrorism, human and drug trafficking, cyber-security, transnational crime and protection of the nation’s critical infrastructure. The program they created prepares high-quality professionals to analyze, evaluate and lead critical security-related efforts in their chosen profession. In the future, with the establishment of a center of excellence, an honor society and a student-led, peer-reviewed journal, we should rise above several schools currently listed ahead of our program.”
