San Angelo Enjoys Pancakes with ASU's Ram Mascot

Only at the Angelo State University Center could you find red and green pancakes, Santa, and a live ram.

Sunday night’s event was put on with the collaboration of the Alumni Association, Sam’s Club, and volunteers from ASU and Goodfellow Air Force Base.

The community was invited to enjoy a pancake dinner and take pictures with ASU's mascot, Dominic the ram, and Santa.

Anderson, an alumnus of ASU, said , “These programs impact the children beyond what you would imagine.”

She said her daughter went away to college for four semesters but ultimately came back to ASU because of the community it offered in events such as this one.

“This is a really great memory for the children that come. When you have really good quality events you really impact the children,” Charlotte Anderson of Sam’s Club said.

She said it is programs that invite the community and the children that planting seeds that are going to make a difference in the future.

She added, “If we can capture their hearts while their young we’ll capture them when they are ready to go to college.

Kimberly Adams, Director of the Alumni Asscoiation, said the event culminated three years ago when they “were looking for a way to open the doors to the community.”

At the time funds were also trying to be raised in order to better transport the university's live mascot.

Anderson said, “Previously, Dominic was being carted around in a pick up truck and a wire cage.”

The association decided to incorporate a fundraiser into a Christmas event for the community. The donations from the event were enough to get an animal trailer for Dominic.

Adams said the event allows the Alumni Center to invite the community in, take free pictures with Santa, and “Where else do you get red and green pancakes?”

She said, “Where better to bring the kids than the Alumni Building if this is your future?”

Entrance to the annual event is by donation. The money raised this year will be going toward a homecoming scholarship for the next school year. Adams said anyone interested in applying for the scholarship should look out for more information this coming summer. Visit angelo.site-ym.com to learn more about the Alumni Association.
