San Angelo ISD Responds to Teacher’s Arrest; Police Chief Holds Press Conference

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo ISD officials issued a statement Wednesday addressing the arrest of a Lake View High School teacher accused of an improper relationship with a student.

“San Angelo ISD administration was made aware of serious allegations regarding inappropriate conduct involving an employee at Lake View High School,” the district stated. “Upon learning of these allegations, the district acted immediately and in accordance with established policies. The individual was placed on administrative leave and voluntarily turned himself into the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing."

The district also reaffirmed its stance on student safety, saying, “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. San Angelo ISD maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any behavior that compromises the integrity of our learning environment.”

To protect the privacy of all parties involved, the district said it “cannot provide further details at this time” but added, “we are committed to keeping our community informed as appropriate while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.”

“San Angelo ISD remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive educational environment for all students, families, and staff,” the statement concluded.

San Angelo Police Chief Travis Griffith held a press conference Wednesday to discuss the case. Police stated that Abraham Gonzales, 24, was arrested following an inquiry by the department’s Crimes Against Children Unit after a third party reported the alleged incident on March 13.

During the investigation, police also found allegations that a school resource officer had engaged in inappropriate communications with the same student. That officer was immediately placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.

The investigation is ongoing.
