WATCH: Police Shootout Ends with Suspect Hospitalized

PECOS,  TX – A police shootout was caught on video Saturday outside of a local restaurant in Pecos, TX. 

As seen in the video, on August 2, deputies with the Reeves County Sheriffs Office and the Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety were in a shootout with a man who exited his truck carrying a hunting rifle. 

Witnesses in the video say two gunshots were heard followed by the suspect falling to the ground. After collapsing the man attempted to reach for his gun again but officers were able to detain him. 

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Bernardo Fernandez is in critical but stable condition at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. 

Fernandez was wanted for Murder out of Carlsbad, New Mexico. According to CBS7, the Carlsbad Police Department has been looking for Fernandez since his wife was found dead from head injuries after police responded to a domestic disturbance call. 

Fernandez is now facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Reeves County.
