SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at an off-duty police officer following a domestic dispute.
Joshua Orcutt, 34, was arrested by the San Angelo Police Department for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, on Monday, Oct. 12, San Angelo police responded to the San Angelo Police Station, 401 East Beauregard Ave., in response to a domestic disturbance. The investigator arrived and spoke with the victim, who is an investigator with the San Angelo Police Department. The victim stated that while he was loading pallets behind 1117 West Beauregard Ave., he heard a subject, identified as Joshua Orcutt, yelling, “Baby,” while driving a vehicle alongside a woman who was walking on the sidewalk.
The victim left his location to assist the woman after realizing a domestic disturbance was occurring. He contacted the woman in the parking lot of Rent-A-Wheel, located in the 1400 block of West Beauregard Avenue, and Orcutt was no longer present. The victim approached the woman and informed her that he was a police officer and displayed his badge. While the woman was getting into the victim’s vehicle, Orcutt returned and drove towards the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle.
Then, Orcutt produced a small semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at the victim from the window. The victim told Orcutt that he was a police officer and showed him his badge, at which point Orcutt fled the area at a high rate of speed. The victim stated that Orcutt’s actions caused him to fear for his safety, so he retrieved his firearm.
The investigator spoke with the woman, who stated that she had been in an argument with Orcutt in the 1300 block of West Harris Avenue and that she chose to leave the house with her dog and personal belongings. She explained that while walking, Orcutt began following her in his vehicle. Orcutt began yelling at her, and the altercation continued as she walked before the off-duty officer intervened.
Another investigator interviewed Orcutt, who confirmed he was in a verbal altercation with the woman that continued from the residence to West Beauregard Avenue. Orcutt also acknowledged seeing the woman get into the victim’s vehicle but denied having a gun during his interaction with the victim.
Then, the investigator spoke with Orcutt’s mother, who confirmed the altercation between Orcutt and the woman. She also stated that she owns a handgun that she allows Orcutt access to for protection. Orcutt’s mother gave consent for officers to seize the handgun from her bedroom.
Orcutt was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Oct. 12, and his bond has been set at $50,000.
