Arrest Made in September's Bowie Street Shooting

SAN ANGELO, TX — An arrest has been made in the Bowie Street shooting that occurred in September.

Rogelio Recendez, 35, of San Angelo, has been arrested by the San Angelo Police Department for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after shooting a man in the leg.

According to court documents, on Sept. 1, 2026, San Angelo police officers responded to the 3100 block of Bowie Street and Shannon Medical Center regarding a shooting victim. Upon arriving at the hospital, officers learned that the victim had been shot in the leg and that the shooting happened on Bowie Street. Officers surrounded the residence but were unable to make contact with anybody inside.

The investigator responded to Shannon Medical Center and spoke with the victim, who stated he was living at the residence on the 3100 block of Bowie Street for about three weeks. He arrived at the residence, and when he entered the house, he observed his girlfriend smoking meth in their bedroom. He confronted her about her narcotic use, then began walking to take a shower, the court documents state.

As the victim was walking towards the bathroom, he observed a male subject he knows as Junior Recendez, who was later identified as Rogelio Recendez, in another bedroom. The victim thought it was odd because no one else was usually at the residence. He walked back to his bedroom and asked his girlfriend who the man was, and she responded by saying that Recendez was one of her father’s friends.

The victim went to put his boots back on because he said something seemed wrong. Then, Recendez attempted to push his way through the door to the bedroom, and the victim pushed back. Recendez then reached for his waistband, so the victim picked up a knife and lunged at him. The victim saw Recendez pointing a gun at him, and Recendez told him to put the knife down. The victim said he would not put it down as Recendez was pointing a gun at him.

Then, the victim began making his way to the front door, and that is when Recendez shot him in the leg. The victim then heard another male subject say to shoot him in the face. Recendez did not shoot the victim again.

The victim and Recendez made it to the front porch, and the victim asked if Recendez would take him to the hospital. After refusing, Recendez ran about two blocks away to a family member’s house. In the end, the victim had one of his family members take him to the hospital.

The investigator observed the victim to have a wound at Shannon, and doctors advised the victim that he had bullet fragments in his leg due to it hitting a bone.

When the investigator went to the 3100 block of Bowie Street, he learned that several attempts had been made to contact the victim’s girlfriend by phone with no response. Commands could be heard being given over a loudspeaker for the occupants of the residence to exit, but nobody did.

Recendez was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Oct 5, and his bond has been set at $100,000.
