Carlsbad Man Arrested After Shooting Man on Side of Road

SAN ANGELO, TX — A Carlsbad man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a stranger on the side of the road.

Christian Wynn, 33, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to court documents, in the early morning hours of Sept. 19, an investigator was contacted by a Tom Green County Sheriff Deputy regarding a shooting victim who was shot in the torso and was being prepped for surgery at Shannon Medical Center. Then it was learned that the shooting occurred in Carlsbad.

After obtaining the necessary information from hospital staff, the investigator and deputies traveled to Carlsbad in hopes of locating blood evidence, a shell casing or eyewitnesses, but nothing was found.

That afternoon, the investigator interviewed the victim, who stated he was working on his moped on the side of the roadway near 5th and Dallas streets when he was approached by two individuals, one of whom was holding a rifle in his hand. One of the individuals, who the victim believed to be a woman, did not get close enough for him to identify as it was 9:45 p.m.

The unknown male subject approached the victim and stated he was looking for a “Bill” and that the two had been looking for him for days. The victim replied with his name, which was not “Bill." The victim then said that the man had a strange look in his eyes. At one point during the short conversation, he pointed the rifle in the victim’s direction then toward the ground again.

The two then appeared to walk off when a bright light from a flashlight came on then quickly turned off. The victim stated as soon as the light turned off, he began to stand from his kneeling position next to his moped when he felt a sudden and sharp pain in his torso. The victim informed the investigator that after being shot, both individuals turned and ran away.

On the evening of Sept. 23, the investigator received a phone call from a deputy who informed him that he was on scene of a domestic issue in Carlsbad. The deputy said that the woman's son, identified as Wynn, was acting violently and threatening violence towards her and her daughter. The woman also stated that she was “80% positive” that Wynn had something to do with the shooting that occurred on Sept. 19.

She said Wynn stated that he meant to shoot the victim in the head, and he provided other details and descriptions of the location where the shooting occurred.

The victim was shot about 150 yards from where Wynn had been staying.

Based on that information, a photo lineup was brought before the shooting victim. On Sept. 30, the investigator met with the victim, and the victim kept favoring the photo of Wynn. However, the victim could not be 100% posistive, because the individual who shot him had bushy blonde hair, and in the photo of Wynn that was presented, Wynn had slicked-back hair which appeared to be dyed black.

After the photo lineup, the victim told the investigator that he had been doing his own investigation since the shooting. He informed the investigator that the name of the individual known as “Dakota” fit the description when he was gathering his own information and talking to people.

The investigator gathered a photo from the victim’s phone of the man who he believed shot him.

A search of Wynn’s Facebook page was analyzed. During the search, an image of Wynn almost identical to the image the victim had on his phone was located. The image provided by the victim showed Wynn lying down next to a pitbull, and Wynn was wearing a dark blue shirt. In the image found on Wynn’s Facebook, Wynn is with the same dog wearing the same or similar dark blue shirt and had the same tattoos on his face. Also in the image found on Facebook, Wynn had long shaggy blonde hair like the victim described.

Wynn has previous arrest and convictions for aggravated assault bodily injury from Taylor County as well as injury to a child/elderly/disabled persons with intent to cause bodily injury also out of Taylor County. Wynn was paroled from the Texas Department of Corrections in 2025 on those charges.

Wynn was arrested on Oct. 1 and is being held in the Tom Green County Jail on $150,000 bond.
