Tom Green County’s Most Wanted List Includes Murder Suspect

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking a man in a 2009 San Angelo homicide that state investigators list as unsolved, along with three other men named on its most-wanted page.

Francisco Vazquez Zertuche, now 71, is wanted for murder in the death of Maria Del Carmen Alcantar, 45. San Angelo police were called to the 2400 block of Raney Street on April 9, 2009, and found Alcantar dead in bed, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety cold-case summary.

Investigators named Zertuche, described in contemporaneous reporting as her boyfriend, as the suspect. A murder warrant was issued, and authorities said he fled to Mexico the same day. A Tom Green County grand jury indicted him in June 2009.

Reporting from that time states that police believed he left for Mexico shortly after the killing. The Texas Rangers and San Angelo police still list the case as unsolved. Texas Crime Stoppers is offering up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anonymous tips can be made at 1-800-252-TIPS. The sheriff’s listing, posted April 9, 2009, gives a last known address of 3105 N. Chadbourne, Apt. 3, in San Angelo, and lists his employer as unknown. He is described as a white man, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His date of birth is Sept. 7, 1955.

Fernando Mendoza, 58, is wanted for indecency with a child by sexual contact. Local outlets reported in June 2024 that the sheriff’s office was seeking him and that his last known residence was in Ballinger. The agency listing, posted Jan. 16, 2024, describes him as self-employed, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His date of birth is July 22, 1968.

Jarrod Blaine Williams, 35, is wanted for failing to meet a lifetime or annual duty to register as a sex offender. In December 2022, the sheriff’s office issued a be-on-the-lookout notice for Williams and another man, both with last known addresses in Carlsbad. The listing, posted March 7, 2022, gives an address of P.O. Box 133 / Mason St. Apt. 6 in Carlsbad and lists Walmart as his last known employer. He is described as a white man, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 210 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His date of birth is April 4, 1991.
