Man Taken into Custody After Fleeing Traffic Stop in Sterling County

STERLING CITY, TX — A man wanted for fleeing and eluding was taken into custody Saturday after running from a traffic stop in Sterling County, the Sterling County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The subject, described as a black male wearing pink pants and a brown and pink sweatshirt, fled a traffic stop and jumped a fence into a pasture about a half-mile south of town on U.S. Highway 87 toward San Angelo, authorities stated.

The Sterling County Sheriff’s Office was searching the area south on U.S. 87 at the time of the updates. Officials said they did not believe the man was armed and urged the public not to approach him if seen and instead contact the sheriff’s office.

A later update posted Saturday confirmed the subject was in custody. The office thanked Josh Gaines and Concho Aviation for their assistance.
