SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife, shooting her with a BB gun, and making aggressive sexual advances towards her.
John Dunlap, 48, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, on Aug. 11, 2026, an investigator was contacted by the San Angelo Police Department dispatch regarding an aggravated assault. When the investigator arrived on scene, he was briefed by two officers who stated the victim and Dunlap had met through social media and had only spoken online. They agreed that Dunlap would pick up the victim and take her to his residence on Bowie Street.
The investigator spoke with the victim and learned that while the two were at Dunlap’s residence, they started off listening to music and talking. Then, the victim stated that Dunlap threw himself on top of her and began sexually assaulting her.
She said she pushed him off and ran into the kitchen, where Dunlap followed and grabbed a folding knife, raised it into the air, then ran towards her. The victim ran out of the residence through the garage and down the street while Dunlap closed the garage.
The victim called the police and began walking back towards Dunlap’s residence to give the police dispatch her location. While speaking with dispatch, Dunlap exited the residence and shot her in the stomach with a BB gun. The investigator then observed a red raised area on the victim’s stomach, consistent with being shot with a BB gun.
Dunlap was arrested that night and released the next day on $100,000 bond.
