Santa Anna Reserve Officer Arrested in Mexico After Killing 3 People

SANTA ANNA, TX — A reserve officer with the Santa Anna Police Department has been arrested for killing three people in Mexico and shooting the mother of his child.

Chad Eberle, 35, was arrested last week in Saltillo, Mexico, the capital of Coahuila, after killing three individuals in what is being described as a child custody dispute. 

The three individuals killed were identified as Ana Laura de Leon Morin, 44, Laura Jaquelin Morin de Leon, 23, and Emanuel Montero Gomez, 44, reports say.

Reports indicate the dispute concerned Eberle’s 3-year-old son. When he went to where the child’s mother was located, an argument broke out which ended with three dead and the child’s mother is in critical condition after being shot in the head.

Eberle then allegedly fled towards the U.S. border in a grey Chevy Silverado with his son. He was tracked by Mexican authorities near Piedras Negras, across from Eagle Pass, Texas. There, he was arrested trying to cross back into the United States. His child was unharmed.

The Santa Anna Police Department issued a statement concerning Eberle which says:

"The City of Santa Anna has been aware of a situation out of Mexico concerning one of our Reserve Officers, Chad Eberle, who was on a personal leave of absence until December. The Santa Anna Police Department has been in contact with the US Consulate in Mexico and TCOLE in Texas. He (Eberle) was an unpaid Reserve Police Officer hired in November 2025 and worked 1 weekend per month. Due to the ongoing investigation, no other public comment will be made."

The small town of Santa Anna is located about 70 miles east of San Angelo.

Eberle has also worked for multiple Bexar County law enforcement agencies in Texas, along with the Bangs Police Department in Brown County.  Reports also state that he has some military background.

Eberle has been charged with femicide and qualified homicide.
