Garden City Man Arrested in Pecos County Human Smuggling Attempt

PECOS COUNTY, TX — A Garden City man was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop in Pecos County led to human smuggling charges when authorities found he was transporting three undocumented Mexican nationals, officials said.

A deputy with the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit stopped a 2002 Ford F-150 in Sheffield on Aug. 4, according to authorities. Deputies determined during the investigation that the driver, whose name was not released, was from Garden City and was attempting to illegally transport the three passengers into the United States.

As law enforcement secured the scene, one male passenger fled on foot into the surrounding area. The driver and the two remaining passengers were taken into custody without incident.

They were transferred to a nearby U.S. Border Patrol station for processing and pending criminal charges. No further details on the identities of those involved were released.
