BIG SPRING, TX — A 28-year-old Pecos County man has been arrested in connection with a multi-county series of vehicle burglaries, stolen vehicles and firearm thefts after confessing to crimes that cleared 24 investigations, authorities said Tuesday.
Justin Wright was taken into custody without incident July 30 at a relative’s residence in Glasscock County, according to a media release from the Big Spring Police Department. Investigators obtained a full confession that linked him to four stolen vehicles, six stolen firearms, two residential burglaries, two felony criminal mischiefs and 15 vehicle burglaries spanning three jurisdictions. Multiple stolen items have been recovered.
The investigation began July 28 when Big Spring police and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office started looking into an ongoing series of such crimes in their areas. A Crime Stoppers tip provided key information identifying the suspect. Using Flock automated license plate reader technology and assistance from the Texas Rangers, authorities linked a suspect vehicle to the time frames of the offenses and connected Wright to it. A Pecos County Sheriff’s deputy from the Sheffield/Iraan area also helped confirm Wright’s recent association with the vehicle.
On July 30, officials learned of a similar series of vehicle burglaries, stolen vehicles and firearm thefts in Glasscock County that matched the same method of operation. Coordination among the Big Spring Police Department, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Glasscock County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers led to Wright’s positive identification and arrest.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information was available.
