Odessa Woman Charged in Another Drive-By Shooting

ODESSA, TX — An 18-year-old Odessa woman already charged in connection with a gang-related shooting is now facing an additional charge tied to a separate drive-by shooting, according to police.

Rylee Wooten was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a June 14 drive-by shooting at a home in the area of North Hancock Avenue, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officers responded to the residence at about 3:20 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. The homeowner told investigators she was inside when gunfire struck the home.

According to the affidavit, family members told police they had been experiencing ongoing issues with Wooten, who had previously dated a relative's close friend. Witnesses told investigators Wooten had threatened to have the home shot in retaliation for an incident involving her ex-boyfriend.

Surveillance video showed a white four-door vehicle driving past the residence while multiple shots were fired, sending debris toward the home. Although investigators could not identify the exact make and model of the vehicle, witnesses told police Wooten drove a small white SUV matching the one seen on camera.

The affidavit states that investigators later connected the June 14 shooting to a July 6 shooting at Woodson Park. While investigating the Woodson Park incident, officers reviewed surveillance footage showing a white Chevrolet Equinox leaving the scene after the driver allegedly extended a firearm out of the driver's side window and fired multiple rounds before driving away.

Police later stopped the vehicle and identified Wooten as the driver.

Investigators said shell casings recovered from both shootings matched through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, linking the two incidents.

Wooten had already been arrested in connection with the Woodson Park shooting, in which she and four others were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. Police have described that shooting as a retaliatory gang-related incident.
