SAN ANGELO, TX — Tom Green County Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Judge Randy Harris is alerting the public to a new wave of phishing text messages that are falsely claiming to be official summonses from a “Texas District Court” for unpaid traffic violations.
The Precinct 4 office has received multiple calls from residents who received the threatening texts, which warn of immediate arrest, driver’s license suspension, vehicle impoundment, wage garnishment, and asset seizure if fines are not paid right away.
Judge Harris emphasized that the messages are fraudulent. “The Law Firm of Perdue Brandon is the contracted collection agent for this court and will send texts requesting that you contact them about unpaid traffic citations,” Harris stated. “They will not threaten arrest or seizure of property.” He noted that one victim forwarded the actual text, which contains several clear red flags:
- It claims to be from “Texas District Court – Traffic Offense Summons.”
(District courts in Texas do not handle traffic offenses — those are handled in Justice of the Peace and municipal courts.) - It lists fictitious court personnel, including “Judge Vanessa Delgado,” “Clerk Maria Castillo,” and “Issuing Officer Sergeant Kevin Brooks, Badge Number: TX-55941.”
- It uses a fake case number (TX-DC-2026-TR-91204) and demands an appearance tomorrow, May 29, 2026, at 9:20 a.m.
