SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man was arrested Thursday after his vehicle struck and seriously injured a 16-year-old boy who was walking home from work.
Aaron Metcalf, 24, was driving his work truck at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 3700 block of Green Meadow Drive when he “became distracted and put his head down,” according to police records.
His vehicle then struck the boy, who was left in the roadway while Metcalf failed to stop or render aid.
Metcalf later told a police officer he didn’t know what he hit and thought it was a pole. Video footage showed Metcalf’s vehicle accelerating after the collision.
The boy was reportedly walking home from a nearby McDonald’s when his electric scooter’s battery began running low. He called his mother to pick him up, and it was his mother who found him lying in the road.
According to police, a doctor at Shannon Medical Center determined that the boy suffered from "internal decapitation," which is defined as a severe injury where the skull separates from the spine internally.
Metcalf was arrested and charged with accident involving serious bodily injury. He is being held without bond in Tom Green County Jail.
This is the third time Metcalf has been arrested in the last seven months. He was booked in February for no proof of financial responsibility for a second time, and he had two charges for possession of a controlled substance during an October 2025 arrest.
