SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man who was reportedly released from prison recently has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Luis Duron, 23, was arrested by the San Angelo Police Department on March 14, 2026, for using a gun to threaten a man in January.
According to court documents, on Jan. 21, 2026, San Angelo police responded to the unit block of East 21st Street regarding a domestic incident. After the investigator reviewed the body camera footage and a police report, it was learned that the officer spoke with both the victim and a witness.
The victim stated that the witness’s son, identified as Duron, had been involved in an altercation with him, threatened to kill him, and discharged a firearm into the ground in front of him. The witness stated that she is in a dating relationship with the victim and that Duron lives with her.
The investigator was told that prior to the shooting, the residence had lost power, and Duron believed that the victim was turning it off on purpose. Then, the witness said that Duron was recently released from prison and had not experienced a power outage, and the fact that the house lost power made him angry.
Duron was reportedly yelling about the power outage, and it woke up the victim who came outside to see what happened. The witness also said that both Duron and the victim were drinking alcohol prior to the incident.
Then, the victim and Duron got into a verbal altercation over the situation, which led to Duron threatening to kill the victim, and he ended up discharging a firearm in an unknown direction, possibly at the ground in front of the victim.
The victim said that if the witness was not standing in between him and Duron, he believed that he would have been shot.
After the altercation and shooting, Duron fled the scene.
An independent witness stated that he heard an argument and saw the victim and Duron yelling at each other. At one point, Duron pointed something in the victim’s direction and stated he would kill him before firing one gunshot.
The investigator canvassed the street in front of the residence and located a single spent 9mm shell casing.
Duron was arrested on March 14, 2026, and booked into the Tom Green County Jail the same day. He is being held on $200,000 bond.
