SAN ANGELO, TX — Official documents have revealed the events that led to a shooting near Veribest on Wednesday.
Gerardo Santos, 29, of San Angelo, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly shot a man.
According to court documents, the investigator spoke with a lieutenant with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and learned that on Feb. 18, 2026, Santos arrived at his soon-to-be ex-wife’s residence in the 10000 block of Talon Lane. There, Santos demanded his wife get their child so he could speak with them. His wife refused, and Santos then wanted to speak with her new boyfriend.
The boyfriend exited the house and walked over to Santos in the yard. Then, Santos’ wife watched him strike her boyfriend in the back of the head. After this, Santos walked to his vehicle and produced a handgun.
Santos’ wife saw him shoot her boyfriend “four or five” times, and it appeared to her that he was trying to shoot the boyfriend in the head. After the shooting, Santos got into his vehicle and fled the scene.
There was blood in the dirt and several metallic shell casings lying on the ground.
In the aftermath, it was learned that the boyfriend was in surgery at the hospital, and the surgeon said the man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his pelvic area and a head wound. Law enforcement personally saw the victim prior to surgery, and they observed a blunt force injury to his head.
The San Angelo Police Department reported to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office that they had located Santos’ vehicle parked on the 1800 block of Koberlin Street. This residence belongs to Santos’ parents, and they informed law enforcement that Santos was inside the house.
Santos was arrested and booked into Tom Green County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
