Abilene Police Searching for Suspect in First Homicide of Year

 

ABILENE, TX — Abilene law enforcement is searching for a suspect after the city’s first homicide of the year early Thursday.

At about 5:15 a.m., police responded to the 3300 block of Sherry Lane in north Abilene for a report of an injured person.

When police arrived, they found a 44-year-old Hispanic man on the pavement outside the Courtyard Park apartment complex.

The man was identified as Jesus Hernandez. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

Just hours earlier, police also received a report of a shooting at the Sandpiper Apartments in the 2100 block of Beechwood Lane, also in north Abilene.

Police were dispatched at about 11 p.m. Wednesday and found another Hispanic man suffering from “trauma from a blunt force object.” His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

A second person, a 20-year-old black man, was contacted at the hospital. He was transported by an individual and was being treated for a gunshot wound. He was in critical condition.

 

No arrests have been reported in any of the incidents.
