Man Killed Inside Big Spring Home After Allegedly Forcing Entry; Man Arrested for Murder

BIG SPRING, TX — A 43-year-old Big Spring man was arrested on a murder charge after a fatal shooting late Friday at a residence on Langley Drive, police said.

Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched at about 10:30 p.m. on January 9 to the 2600 block of Langley Drive after reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Joel Adrian Flores, 43, and a 40-year-old woman standing outside the residence.

Police said the two told officers that Phillip Samuel Lozano Jr., 36, had allegedly forced his way into the home while armed and was subsequently shot by Flores inside the residence. Officers found Lozano suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

Detectives with the Big Spring Police Department, along with Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers and identification personnel, responded to assist with the investigation. Based on evidence collected, investigators determined there was probable cause to charge Flores with murder, police said.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and Flores was taken into custody on Saturday, January 10. Flores was booked into the Howard County Detention Center on the murder charge. The investigation remains ongoing.
