SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo woman has been arrested after falling asleep while driving as she had drugs and a 5-year-old in her vehicle.
Sharon Garrett Mayberry, 54, was arrested by the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on one possession charge and one charge of endangering a child.
According to court documents, on Oct. 6, 2025, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Reece Road and US 277 South regarding a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mayberry, was asleep at the wheel of the vehicle, and a 5-year-old child was also inside the vehicle asleep.
When the investigator arrived, he observed Mayberry in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and saw a broken glass pipe with burnt ends. The investigator knows this is commonly used to inhale drugs.
He woke up Mayberry and ordered her out of the vehicle. While she was exiting the vehicle, a white crystalline rock fell from Mayberry’s lap. A Narcotics Identifications Kit was used, and the substance tested positive for cocaine in crack form. Another crack rock was discovered under the driver's seat.
The child was asleep in the backseat.
The investigator determined that Mayberry was engaging in conduct that placed the child in imminent danger, even though he determined that Mayberry was not impaired at the time.
Mayberry was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Oct. 6, 2025, at 6:10 a.m. and currently has a $25,000 bond.
