UPDATE: Shooter Identified in Armed Standoff at Retirement Apartments

SAN ANGELO, TX — The shooter from an armed standoff at the Oak Grove Senior Apartments was identified during a police press conference late Wednesday afternoon.

Juan Badillo, 69, was the man who shot a woman, then barricaded himself inside his third-floor apartment before he later died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said the suspect was discovered deceased after law enforcement entered his home following failed negotiation attempts Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Travis Griffith said law enforcement received a call at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday regarding a shooting victim who was able to flee the scene. Along with the San Angelo Fire Department, they treated the victim, a 42-year-old woman who is in stable condition at Shannon Hospital.

He added that the residents of Oak Grove were evacuated to safety.

Griffith said the shooting took place inside one of the buildings at the apartment complex.

"We do have the San Angelo SWAT team, and a hostage negotiations team has arrived on scene, along with the criminal investigations division. They're here to hopefully find a peaceful solution," Griffith said. "We ask for people of faith to be praying that we have a peaceful solution to this ordeal and that justice is ultimately the outcome."
