Man Arrested for Pointing Gun at Girlfriend

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been arrested for threatening his girlfriend with a handgun.

Joshua Anthony Showels, 34, of San Angelo, was arrested on Wednesday for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

According to court documents, on August 27, 2025, around 11:20 p.m., a San Angelo police officer responded to the 3300 block of Lindenwood Drive in San Angelo regarding a domestic disturbance. The officer made contact with the victim, who reported a physical assault had occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the same day at a residence on the 300 block of East 8th Street. A firearm was reportedly produced and wielded by Showels.

The investigator contacted the victim and learned that she and Showels were in a dating relationship and had gotten into a verbal argument. During the dispute, the victim said she was grabbed by the neck and shoved against a wall. Showels then allegedly produced a firearm and pointed it at the victim’s face.

The victim was in fear for her life as she thought the firearm would go off and she might be killed. She also said it was a black firearm reminiscent of a semi-automatic handgun. The victim also had fresh scratches on her left forearm.

While conducting this interview, the investigator saw video evidence that captured the incident. The footage showed the victim and a male subject. On the footage, the victim was pinned by the male subject, who was out of frame. The investigator observed the male subject raise his arm and brandish what was clearly a handgun.

Then, the male subject released the victim as he gestured towards the camera. While gesturing at the camera, a handgun was again observed in clear view.

The investigator contacted the San Angelo Police Department’s Communication Division and requested a return of Showel’s driver's license and photo. Inquiries into previous arrests of Showels in Williamson and Travis County were also performed. Photos gathered from these inquiries, as well as the subject in the video obtained, were consistent in build and appearance with Showels.

Showels was arrested on September 3, 2025, and booked into the Tom Green County Jail. He is being held on a $285,000 bond.
