Texas Mom Allegedly 'Intentionally' Left Baby in Hot Car, Charged With Murder

FRISCO, TX — A Dallas woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after police say she intentionally left her 15-month-old child in a hot car in Frisco.

The Frisco Police Department said 27-year-old Vanessa Esquivel arrived at work in the 3200 block of Preston Road around 2 p.m. on Aug. 16 and left her child in a vehicle for more than two hours in 95-degree weather. Detectives believe Esquivel knew the car’s air conditioning was not working.

Investigators said Esquivel’s actions caused injury and endangered the child, leading to the child’s death. Police said the case met the statutory requirements for murder.

A warrant was issued, and Dallas Police arrested Esquivel on Aug. 20. She was later transferred to the custody of Frisco officers and booked into the Collin County Jail. Her bond was set at $250,000.

The charge is a first-degree felony, carrying a punishment of five years to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Frisco Police are asking anyone with information to contact their non-emergency line at 972-292-6010 or submit a tip using Tip411 by texting FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411.
