San Angelo Woman Pleads Guilty in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo woman was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash last year that claimed the life of a 53-year-old man.

Andrea Mendoza, 20, pled guilty to a charge of accident involving death.

She admitted to driving a vehicle that struck James Dwyer, 53, at the intersection of 32nd Street and North Chadbourne Street on Aug. 4, 2024.

She left the scene of the accident without stopping to render aid.

Dwyer died at the scene from his injuries.

While awaiting trial, Mendoza was then arrested for a DWI on March 16 with a blood-alcohol content over 0.15, which is nearly twice the legal limit.

Mendoza has not yet been sentenced on the DWI charge.
