Texas Woman Accused of Marrying Ex-Boyfriend Without His Knowledge

WACO, TX — A 36-year-old woman from Waco has been arrested for allegedly marrying her ex-boyfriend without his consent or presence, convincing a reverend to certify the union, and filing the marriage certificate with the county clerk’s office.

Kristin Marie Spearman was taken into custody and charged with third-degree felony stalking, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department in Texas. Authorities say Spearman orchestrated a fraudulent marriage by obtaining a license and convincing a local reverend to officiate the ceremony without the groom’s participation.

The bizarre incident came to light on June 13 when the 42-year-old ex-boyfriend contacted police after discovering a package from Spearman on his property. Inside the Bath & Body Works gift bag were items from the establishment, handwritten notes, and what police described as a marriage certificate and a photo of Spearman holding a marriage license.

According to police, the ex-boyfriend said the couple had previously planned to marry and obtained a marriage license. However, the relationship ended after an argument before the marriage took place. Unbeknownst to him, Spearman allegedly continued with the marriage process alone.

Investigators say Spearman later filed the certificate at the county clerk’s office, acting “within the same scheme of conduct,” then returned to leave the certificate at the man’s residence.

Authorities confirmed that they are withholding the identity of the reverend involved to prevent harassment as the investigation continues. Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin said the case was unprecedented in his 23-year career.

“I’ve never heard of anybody who managed somehow to get married to someone who wasn’t present for a ceremony,” Martin told local media. “That’s a whole [different] situation.”

Spearman was arrested at her residence and booked into the McLennan County Jail. She has since been released, according to jail records.
