West Texas Sheriff’s Deputies Kill Man Who Shot Officer in Iraan

 

IRAAN, TX — A man who shot a police officer in Iraan on Tuesday was then pursued in a highway chase and killed by her fellow officers, according to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began at about 3 p.m. when a Pecos County deputy initiated a traffic stop in the small town of Iraan.

After pulling over to the side of the road, the suspect then fired a gun at the deputy, who was injured.

The suspect fled in his vehicle east on U.S. Highway 190 before deputies caught up to him about eight miles outside of town.

According to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, gunfire was exchanged that resulted in the suspect being killed.

The deputy who was shot in Iraan was airlifted to Midland Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

Iraan-Sheffield Collegiate ISD was placed on lockdown Tuesday due to the shooting.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
