Suspect in Custody After Shooting 5 at Dallas High School

DALLAS, TX — A 17-year-old is in custody after shooting five students at Wilmer-Hutchins High School on Tuesday in Dallas.

Tracy Haynes Jr. is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $600,000 bond for aggravated assault in a mass shooting.

According to police, surveillance video shows a student letting Haynes into the school through an unsecured door.

It is unknown if Haynes was also a student there.

Once inside the building, Haynes walked down the hallway and approached a group of other male students when he pulled out a gun and began shooting, striking five students.

He then approached one student and shot him at point-blank range, according to the police report.

All five victims were taken to local hospitals. Four have non-life-threatening injuries, and one is in serious condition.

All the victims are expected to recover.

Tuesday’s shooting came nearly a year after another shooting at the school.

On April 12, 2024, another 17-year-old, Ja’kerian Rhodes Ewing, shot another student in a classroom.
