SAN ANGELO, TX — Two fugitives previously sought by the Sonora Police Department were taken into custody in Brewster County on April 15 following a tip that led authorities to their location, officials said.
Otis Babb and Sandra Zaragoza were arrested by a Brewster County Sheriff’s Deputy at approximately 4:20 p.m. after Sonora police forwarded a tip about their whereabouts. The arrest concludes a nearly two-month search that began after Babb and Zaragoza fled law enforcement during a traffic stop in Schleicher County on February 23.
Babb was wanted on three warrants issued by the Sonora Police Department for evading arrest with a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and theft of a motor vehicle. Zaragoza was wanted on a capias warrant related to tampering with a government record with intent to defraud or harm.
Authorities say the pair were first spotted in a stolen vehicle near Christoval on Feb. 23, prompting a high-speed pursuit that ended when the vehicle was abandoned near the YFZ Ranch. At the time, law enforcement warned the public that Babb was considered armed and dangerous.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and professionalism in bringing these fugitives into custody,” the Sonora Police Department stated.
