FRISCO, TX — Lawyers for Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old charged with murder after fatally stabbing another student at a track meet last week, made their first public statement Monday.
The Clark Law Firm and K Cole Law issued a press release asking the public to "refrain from rushing to judgment before all the facts and evidence are presented.”
Anthony has been charged with the murder of Frisco High School student Austin Metcalf, who was also 17. Anthony is a student at Frisco Centennial High School.
Anthony was reportedly under the Frisco tent at the district track meet on the morning of April 2 when he was told he needed to leave by Metcalf, according to a witness who spoke with police.
The witness stated Anthony then opened his bag and reached inside, saying, ‘Touch me and see what happens.’
Metcalf then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen.
Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf grabbed Anthony, at which point Anthony pulled out a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.
Anthony has claimed he was acting in self defense. He is being held in the Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
"Karmelo and the entire Anthony family are sincerely saddened that a life was lost and offer their condolences to the family of Austin Metcalf," the press release from Anthony’s lawyers stated. "Karmelo, like all citizens of the United States, is entitled to a fair and impartial legal process; we are committed to ensuring that Karmelo’s rights are indeed protected throughout each phase of the criminal justice system."
Anthony’s lawyers stated they plan to work with the Collin County District Attorney's Office to reduce Anthony's $1 million bond and "a better determination of the filed charge.”
"This will certainly be a long road ahead and during this challenging time, we ask for prayers for both families and we ask for your patience and respect for the legal process as we seek the truth," the release stated.

How sad for Metcalf family and friends.
Good thang Tony had that knife in his track bag. Sounds like metcalf kid was just going to kill little tony.
I know the Big D area is violent but never knew it was a carry a knife to track meet violent.
If this was the other way around, that area would be upside down.
Normally would be a death penalty but since racism will be brought into it, might just get life or little time and walk on probation.

Here's my take. This young man either intended on causing harm to the deceased or he was bullied by him. Given there is low probability of scenario 2 being remotely true I will go with the first scenario. While there's a possibility it's highly unlikely. There should be plenty of witnesses to answer for that and even video footage of the assault and murder. That would make this premeditated as the assailant kept asking for the deceased to "swing first". Knowing those facts this man should get the death penalty or at least life w/out parole. But we all know he wuz A gUd child and dinndonuffin.....
Fun fact : "Overall, black (49%) and indigenous Americans (48%) victims reported most often, higher than whites (42%) and Asians (40%). Serious violent crime and aggravated assault against blacks (58% and 61%) and indigenous Americans (55% and 59%) was reported more often than against whites (51% and 54%) or Asians (50% and 51%)."
